The Power of Example

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING

A message every adult should read because children

are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you hang my

first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately

wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a

stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind

to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking I…

What Sets You Off?: My Emotional Intelligence Experiment

So what is it that sets you off? Becoming aware of what your triggers are, or what pushes your buttons is a great way to increase your emotional intelligence. We all have something or someone who drives us crazy. One of my triggers is, when someone tells me to “calm down”. It seems that approach usually creates the opposite effect in me. Think of Adam Sandler in the movie “Anger Management”. Other triggers…

People Watching: My Emtional Intelligence Experiment

One strategy to increase emotional intelligence is to observe behavior in other people. I have found two places that I enjoy watching behaviors in people. One is in films and the other is at airports.

Movies and television are a good place for me to identify behaviors that I recognize in myself. It seems that behaviors are often exaggerated for effect. This helps me  identify how people react under pressure. Then I can practice identifying behavior triggers that might affect me. I…

My Emotional Intelligence Experiment

In my job, I help organizations and individuals everyday to develop behaviors that will create optimum results. In my conversations with clients, the topic of emotional intelligence (EQ) comes up a great deal. Over the last decade, emotional intelligence has proven to be a commodity that leaders are looking to incerase in themselves and their people. A highly simplified definition of emotional intelligence is the ability to function effectively under stress or in difficult situations. It is… Continue

The Black Door

I just wanted to share something I had written several years ago.  I was sorting through some files and came across it and the message is still relevent today.  Hope you enjoy it and that you will be able to use it in your day to day life.

You Alone Create in Your Experience

What is, "creating by default"?  It is setting into motion the creation of something that you really do not want, by giving your attention, or focus of thought, to it until it is created, and much of what you are experiencing would fall into that category.  The usual response when one hears for the first time that they are the creator of their life experience - and that all that they are experiencing, without exception, is by their own doing - is, "How can that be?  I would not have created…

Perception

Watch the Power of Words http://youtu.be/Hzgzim5m7oU

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet.  He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help."  There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by.  He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat.  He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words.…

Living at Cause

Today I received an email from a friend who I had spoken to about a year ago about the importance of living at cause. He wrote: "The transition to living in cause is full of surprises and continues everyday.

I often think of the moment when you pulled me aside and “warned” me about the difficulties and pitfalls of changing from living in cause to living in effect.

Thank you for your words that day and know the lessons I learned at Rapport are with me still."

Living at…
