Values
Core values are the basic beliefs the guide each individual and a personal vales define their character. Each person in unique and there for their personal values will also be different. In the training we talk about two different types of character, performance character and moral character.
Performance character is represented by values such as hard work, diligence, positive attitude, perseverance, ingenuity, and self discipline.
Moral character consists of qualities like integrity, justice, caring, respect, responsibility, and corporation.
It is important for each person to develop a balance between their moral and performance character. Looking at the values that define character in section two of the Teen Leadership Breakthrough follow up workbook there is an opportunity to list both the performance vales and moral values that are important to your child. They then get the chance to list the ways that they are living or not living those values and finely what they will do to begin to live their values.
For example:
The value is integrity
I am not living this value when I tell my family I will be home by ten at night but I stay out with my friends until after midnight.
I will begin living this value by keeping my commitments to my family. When I say I will be home at ten, I will arrive at my house before ten.
This is a great activity to do as individuals and also as a family and talk about your answers together, think about respect, teamwork, or positive attitudes and how the entire family interacts together.
